PETALING JAYA: Bukit Aman has denied reports that F16 jets were scrambled by the Singapore air force to intercept a police helicopter that had allegedly intruded into the republic’s airspace.

News portal The Vibes had earlier cited social media posts that said an AgustaWestland AW139 helicopter, with the call sign 9M-PMD, had flown over Tekong Island, where Singapore’s military and National Service training is carried out, on its way to Pengerang.

However, Bukit Aman security and public order director Hazani Ghazali told FMT that Singapore had not alerted them about any such intrusion.

“No F16s were scrambled … and there was no notification from Singapore that (the police helicopter) had intruded into their airspace.”

The helicopter was said to have taken off from a field opposite Jalan Yahya Aldatar in Johor Bahru at about 1am today.

The Vibes also cited information from flight tracking site FlightRadar24, which it said showed an aircraft with no call sign appearing over Changi airport as the Malaysian helicopter entered the airspace above Tekong Island.
