KUALA LUMPUR, June 3-The question on the acquisition of the Fighter Lead-in Trainer/Light Combat Aircraft (FLIT-LCA) will be answered this year.

“A physical assessment of the aircraft is expected to be held in June and a Letter of Acceptance (LoA) is expected to be released this August.

“Six aircraft are to be received in stages starting in 2025. The program was implemented as planned,” said the Chief of Air Force, General Datuk Mohd Asghar Khan Goriman Khan RMAF in a written reply in conjunction with the 64th Anniversary of the Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) to Air Times.

However, the RMAF did not state any or the type of aircraft that will be selected in the future.

The FLIT/LCA acquisition is part of a component of the Capability Development 55 (CAP55) Phase I strategic plan that will end in 2030. It aims to replace the Hawk 108/208, MB339CM and MiG-29N aircraft.

Apart from that, this acquisition is one of the efforts to enhance the RMAF’s combat capability which is able to provide the deterrent effect that is needed in the implementation of the country’s air defence strategy.

At the same time, the acquisition of FLIT/LCA will also enhance the training capabilities of RMAF fighter jet pilots.

If according to plan, the procurement of 36 aircraft will be implemented in stages through 2 Malaysia Plans (RMK).

“The RMAF has set the timeline for the procurement of FLIT/LCA in phases, which is 18 for the first phase during the 12th Malaysia Plan period.

“The aircraft acquired in this phase will be operational in 2025,” he said.

The procurement of the remaining 18 FLIT/LCA aircraft will be done in the 13th Malaysia Plan and is expected to be operational in 2030.

In the meantime, Asghar stated that the Hawk aircraft service will end in phases from 2027.

“The phased termination of Hawk aircraft service will begin in 2027 after the successful acquisition of FLIT/LCA.

“Besides that, the RMAF does not plan to update the Hawk aircraft,” he said.

– airtimes.my
