KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 24 – Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced an allocation of RM17.7 billion for the Ministry of Defence.
At the same time, he announced the government’s decision to approve the procurement of a Littoral Mission Ship (LMS) for the Royal Malaysian Navy (RMN).
“In strengthening the level of defence and maritime control of the country, the Government is implementing the procurement of Littoral mission ships this year which is highly demanded by MINDEF,” he said while presenting the 2023 Budget in the Dewan Rakyat, today.
According to him, the priority of this allocation is to maintain and purchase the assets of the Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF) to increase defence readiness with an allocation of almost RM4.1 billion.
The allocation presented this year is slightly higher compared to the 2023 budget presented before the 15th General Election which was RM17.37 billion.
