KUALA LUMPUR, 25 July 2025 – The Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF) has participated in a diplomatic military delegation to the disputed Anlong Veng–Phnom An Ma (Chong An Ma) zone, located along the contentious Cambodia–Thailand border. The high-profile visit highlights Malaysia’s active role in fostering regional stability and defence transparency within ASEAN.
In an official social media post, the MAF confirmed that the delegation comprised representatives from key global powers and regional neighbours, including the United States, China, Japan, Russia, South Korea, Australia, Indonesia, the Philippines, Singapore, Laos, Vietnam, and Myanmar.
The visit was reportedly initiated by Cambodian authorities to affirm their commitment to transparency and address international concerns over alleged border incursions. Cambodia reiterated that all defensive measures undertaken were strictly within its sovereign territory.
The Chong An Ma area has long been a hotspot for geopolitical tension, particularly due to historical disputes surrounding the nearby Preah Vihear Temple. Analysts believe Cambodia’s move forms part of a broader information warfare campaign aimed at influencing regional and global narratives.
While Cambodia has made its stance clear, Thailand has yet to issue any official response regarding the inspection. Malaysia, for its part, has not released any findings or formal statements following the visit.
In a related development, Malaysia’s Chief of Defence Forces, General Tan Sri Mohd Nizam Jaffar, is set to make official visits to both Thailand and Cambodia. These visits follow Malaysia’s recent success in brokering a temporary ceasefire agreement between the two countries, signalling continued diplomatic engagement in the region.
