Lt Adnan and 42 men of the Malay Regiment fought the Japanese at Bukit Chandu in Pasir Panjang.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Biar putih tulang jangan putih mata (better death than dishonour) &#8211; that was the motto Lt Adnan chose for his platoon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<script async=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/pagead2.googlesyndication.com\/pagead\/js\/adsbygoogle.js\"><\/script>\n<ins class=\"adsbygoogle\" style=\"display:block; text-align:center;\" data-ad-layout=\"in-article\" data-ad-format=\"fluid\" data-ad-client=\"ca-pub-3314475734161595\" data-ad-slot=\"7610079946\"><\/ins>\n<script>\n     (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});\n<\/script>\n\n\n\n<p>They lived the true meaning of the motto. Outgunned and outnumbered, they fought valiantly with what they got: their bayonets, bare hands and steel hearts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Wounded, yet Lt Adnan refused to give up his uniform and surrender to the Japanese. Yes, better death than dishonour.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Japanese killed Lt Adnan, then 27, but he forever lived as hero in our hearts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The last survivor of Lt Adnan\u2019s platoon, <a href=\"https:\/\/mymilitarytimes.com\/index.php\/2021\/02\/11\/the-last-survivor-of-battle-of-pasir-panjang-passes-away-due-to-covid-19\/\">Mr Ujang Mormin<\/a>, passed away at 100 years old in Selangor due to Covid-19 on 9 Feb 2021.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Never forget &#8211; our independence did not come cheap.
