MAF Combat Assets Tested at Fire Power Training 2022

GEMAS, 21 June 2022 – The Fire Power Training (FPT) in 2022 which is also an annual event for the Malaysian Army (TDM) was successfully held at Syed Sirajuddin Camp today.

This exercise is a parallel approach
with the planning of the Ministry of Defence (MINDEF) and the Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF) under the MINDEF 2022 Strategic Plan and the Defence White Paper which is to ensure that the MAF’s readiness continues to be at the highest level in order to defend national sovereignty.

Not only that, this FPT is also one of the various ongoing efforts that MINDEF and MAF have implemented, especially over the past few months. With the aim of ensuring that all three services of MAF continue to be equipped with the assets they need despite facing this challenging post-pandemic era.

The organization of this FPT is not only important to test the team management as well as the ability and competence of members in carrying out live ammunition training. In fact, it is also the best platform to demonstrate the ability of TDM members in operating sophisticated and state-of-the-art vehicle and armament platforms professionally as the training is provided.

For this year, the FPT direct firing segment lasted for about 2 hours with the conduct of maneuvers and firepower involving the assets of Infantry, Mechanised, Armor, Artillery, PUTD and Aircraft of the Royal Malaysian Navy (RMN) and the Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF).

It involves a total of 2,300 officers and members from various specialties as well as 644 various types of combat vehicles, support vehicles and weapon systems. These include PT 91M PENDEKAR, AV8 Gempita, AV 4 Lipan Bara, ACV 300 Adnan and the Malaysian Infantry Fighting Vehicle (MIFV).

While armament assets include small armaments to large caliber cannons and rockets such as Astros II Multiple Launch Rocket System, 155 MM G5 MK III Cannon, 105 MM PH L5 Cannon, INGWE Anti-Tank Guided Missile (ATGM), BAKTAR SHIKAN, Mortar 120MM and 81MM as well as Rocket-Propelled Grenade (RPG-7 40MM).

Also involved are helicopters from the three services of MAF, namely Super Lynx and AS555 Fennec Helicopters from RMN, EC 725 Helicopters from RMAF and Agusta A109 LOH and MD530G Helicopters from PUTD.

Meanwhile, in the indirect firing segment, the Tactical Display Air Support (CAS) capability for RMAF aircraft in this exercise was demonstrated which involved the assets of fighter aircraft namely FA 18 D Hornet and BAE Hawk 208.

Overall, this year’s FPT went smoothly as planned. It also highlights to the public that the readiness of the MAF, especially TDM in carrying out its main task of defending national security continues to be at the highest level.
