In the face of the uncertainty of an increasingly challenging security environment, the government is committed to planning a defense strategy with a new approach to improve overall defense capabilities.
This defence strategy is based on the new National Defence Framework, aimed at improving national defense preparedness and at the same time maximize the country’s capability as a maritime country with a continental shelf and a gateway between the two Asia-Pacific regions and the Indian Ocean.
This National Defence Strategy is based on three main pillars which are Integrated Defence, Comprehensive Defence and Strong Partnership. The Government’s efforts to implement the three pillars will contribute to the National Defence Interests and Objectives.
In order to realize a long-term defence strategy, the steps that will be taken are:
🔴 Enhance defence capabilities and strengthen togetherness in the Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM) as well as with security agencies;
🔴 Enhance security awareness and defence preparedness through a whole country approach; and
🔴 Play a more active role in driving more progressive initiatives, expanding partnerships and shaping regional relationships.
Basically, the National Defence Strategy is the driving force behind the transformation of the ATM into an integrated, agile and focused force in the direction of the Future Force (AMH) to protect the country’s interests, especially defending sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Therefore, in support towards the realization of this desire, the National Defence Strategy was developed guided by the following principles:
🔵 Based on interests: Making plans based on national interests based on integrated layer areas;
🔵 Activist Neutrality: Practicing a policy of neutrality and promoting cooperation by emphasizing inclusion and shared prosperity, along with shared security and shared identity;
🔵 Aspiration for Independence: Reducing dependence on other parties by empowering the local defense industry through the advancement of defence science and technology;
🔵 Innovation and Integration: Improving research and development (Research and Development, R&D) in the field of defence science and technology by prioritizing the development of defence capabilities through collaboration across all sectors; and
🔵 Better Management. Institutionalizing the best governance in management
