TANAH MERAH: The Ministry of Defence has enhanced the administrative system at the National Defence University of Malaysia (UPNM) by increasing the number of wardens to address bullying incidents. Deputy Minister Adly Zahari emphasized that the Ministry has a zero-tolerance policy on bullying, which has raised concerns among parents about sending their children to the university.
Adly highlighted that following a recent bullying incident, the Ministry is focusing on two main aspects: legal action and administrative improvements. He noted that the legal aspect is under police investigation, while administratively, UPNM has increased the number of wardens to better monitor and interact with more students, which should help prevent similar incidents.
This approach has been in place since the 2017 case involving the late Zulfarhan Osman Zulkarnain.
The statement was made during a press conference following the Madani Village Veterans Program in Tanah Merah.
Previously, a senior UPNM student faced charges for intentionally injuring a junior cadet with a hot steam iron in October.
