The Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF) special forces are ready to be deployed to control areas considered ‘blind spots’, in an effort to strengthen and improve the level of security in Sabah.
Commander of 21 Gerup Gerak Khas (GGK), Major General Nubli Hashim said the strength of the special forces comprising elite naval, air and ground forces, was being enhanced from time to time, Bernama reported.
The involvement of these special forces is important, because their operational concept is able to monitor ‘blind spots’, which cannot be controlled in large groups.
“They move in small and high-capacity groups and can be arranged to move quickly,” he told reporters after witnessing the Gempur Bara Exercise Series 1/2022 held at Pulau Siamil in Semporna, today.
Meanwhile, Joint Task Force 2 (JTF 2) Commander Brigadier General Abdul Karim Ahmad said his party was not intimidated by any threats from outsiders, instead it was able to respond beyond expectations.
In the meantime, he said the addition of high-tech assets such as radar in the Eastern Sabah Safe Zone (ESSZone), had succeeded in curbing cross-border crime, including attempts by illegal immigrants to sneak into Sabah.
He said the military team through ATB 2 foiled five attempts to enter illegal immigrants in Tawau, with 57 immigrants arrested last month.
“The deployment of personnel and the addition of high -tech equipment help curb external threats,” he said.
On the Gempur Bara Exercise, Abdul Karim said the five -day training, which ended today, involved military special forces and VAT69 from the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM).
He said it was aimed at testing the level of competence on the tasks and roles that needed to be performed involving all elements of the special forces under the control of JTF 2 operations, which was carrying out Op Pasir on the east coast of Sabah.
