HAWAII, 26 June – KD LEKIR had successfully conducted an underway replenishment (UNREP) at sea with USNS HENRY J. KAISER in the waters of Hawaii, United States of America.

The Royal Malaysian Navy (RMN) ship met with the American oiler in Hawaiian waters off Oahu Island this afternoon, after almost two weeks of non-stop sailing in the Pacific Ocean.

USNS HENRY J. KAISER had a busy day with ships from countries including Malaysia refuelling before heading into Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam to participate in the Rim of the Pacific (RIMPAC) 2022 exercise.

KD LEKIR is Malaysia’s second representative in RIMPAC after KD LEKIU took part in 2018.

Led by Commanding Officer Commander Mohd Asri bin Dasman RMN, the 132-strong Kasturi-class corvette will conduct a missile firing during the sea phase of this year’s RIMPAC.

26 nations, 38 ships, four submarines, more than 170 aircraft and 25,000 personnel are participating in RIMPAC from June 29 to August 4 in and around the Hawaiian Islands and Southern California.

The world’s largest international maritime exercise, RIMPAC provides a unique training opportunity while fostering and sustaining cooperative relationships among participants critical to ensuring the safety of sea lanes and security on the world’s oceans.

RIMPAC 2022 is the 28th exercise in the series that began in 1971.
