Fleet Staff Talks 2022 – Platform to Strengthen RMN and USN Relationship

Kota Kinabalu, Dec 13 – The Eastern Fleet Command Headquarters has become the organizer of the RMN-USN Fleet Staff Talk 2022 (FST 2022), which is a bilateral discussion platform between the Royal Malaysian Navy and the United States Navy (USN).

The RMN-USN FST 2022 held for two days starting December 12 focused on discussing activities and military programs to improve bilateral relations between the two countries. In addition, the FST 2022 which brought together nearly 49 c personnel with various expertise discussed a number of issues related to security, implementation of operations, exercises and bilateral training that can benefit both countries. It also provides an opportunity for both forces to coordinate and improve the cooperation already established at the strategic level.

The Commander of the USN Seventh Fleet (Commander U.S. 7th Fleet), Vice Admiral Karl Thomas also visited the RMN Kota Kinabalu base and paid a courtesy call on the Commander of the Eastern Fleet, Vice Admiral Datuk Sabri bin Zali before visiting several units such as the Submarine Command Headquarters, Kota Kinabalu Air Station, 601 Squadron and Shooting Complex at this base.

At the end of the RMN-USN FST 2022 session, the two commanders also witnessed the signing ceremony of the FST 2022 Meeting Minutes by the Chairman and Co-Chairman, namely Captain Hazrine bin Mohd Taib TLDM and Captain Jason Weddle USN at Wisma Kejora.

FST 2022 has clearly opened up a space for direct communication in addition to further strengthening bilateral relations between the two navies, especially the TLDM and the U.S. 7th Fleet. It is also seen as the best platform to jointly improve RMN-USN interoperability in the future.

Kota Kinabalu, 13 Dis – Markas Pemerintahan Armada Timur telah menjadi penganjur bagi RMN-USN Fleet Staff Talk 2022 (FST 2022) yakni platform perbincangan dua hala Tentera Laut Diraja Malaysia dan Tentera Laut Amerika Syarikat (TLAS).

RMN-USN FST 2022 yang dilaksanakan selama dua hari bermula 12 Disember telah memfokuskan perbincangan aktiviti serta program ketenteraan untuk meningkatkan hubungan dua hala kedua negara. Selain itu, FST 2022 yang mengumpulkan hampir 49 warga berkepakaran pelbagai ini telah membincangkan beberapa isu berkaitan keselamatan, pelaksanaan operasi, eksesais dan latihan dua hala yang dapat memanfaatkan kedua buah negara. Ia turut memberi peluang bagi kedua angkatan menyelaras dan menambahbaik kerjasama yang sedia terjalin di peringkat strategik.

Panglima Armada Ketujuh TLAS (Commander U.S. 7th Fleet), Laksamana Madya Karl Thomas turut hadir ke Pangkalan TLDM Kota Kinabalu dan berkunjung hormat ke atas Panglima Armada Timur, Laksamana Madya Datuk Sabri bin Zali sebelum melaksanakan lawatan ke beberapa unit seperti Markas Pemerintahan Kapal Selam, Stesen Udara Kota Kinabalu, Skuadron 601 dan Kompleks Menembak di pangkalan ini.

Di akhir sesi RMN-USN FST 2022, kedua pemerintah turut menyaksikan majlis menandatangani Minit Mesyuarat FST 2022 oleh Pengerusi dan Pengerusi Bersama iaitu Kepten Hazrine bin Mohd Taib TLDM dan Kepten Jason Weddle TLAS di Wisma Kejora.

FST 2022 ini nyata telah membuka ruang komunikasi secara langsung di samping memperkukuh lagi hubungan bilateral kedua-dua tentera laut terutamanya TLDM dan U.S 7th Fleet. Ianya turut dilihat sebagai platform terbaik bagi meningkatkan interoperabiliti TLDM-TLAS secara bersama di masa hadapan.
