Defence Ministry Expects Second Batch of LMS to Be Acquired This Year

Johor Bahru: The Ministry of Defense anticipates the acquisition of the second group for three Littoral Mission Ships (LMS) of the Royal Malaysian Navy (RMN) to be finalized this year. The Defence Minister, Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin, stated that the construction of LMS is expected to take three years after the acquisition process is completed.

He mentioned that they will continue to focus on the construction process of five Littoral Combat Ships (LCS), with one of them expected to undergo the installation system and equipment testing, namely the Harbour Acceptance Test and Sea Acceptance Trial in November.

He made these remarks during a media briefing after the Defence Minister’s Iftar Ceremony with RMN personnel at the RMN Base in Johor Bahru, held here yesterday.

Also present were Navy Chief Admiral Tan Sri Abdul Rahman Ayob, West Fleet Commander Rear Admiral Datuk Shamsuddin Ludin, and RMN Reserve Forces Commander Rear Admiral Azeman Yusoff.
