Royal Malaysian Navy Helicopter Crash at Lumut Base: Officials Conduct Site Visit, Extend Condolences

LUMUT, 23rd April 2024 – The Chief of Defence  Force, General Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Mohammad bin Ab Rahman, along with the Minister of Defence, YB Dato’ Seri Khaled bin Nordin, and the Secretary-General of the Ministry of Defence, Dato’ Seri Isham bin Ishak, visited the site of the Royal Malaysian Navy (RMN) helicopter crash at the RMN Base in Lumut, Perak, during the rehearsal for the RMN’s 90th Anniversary celebration.

The Commander of the Armed Forces, the Minister of Defence, and the Secretary-General of the Ministry of Defence spent approximately 30 minutes at the crash site, where they received briefings from the officers conducting operations on-site and observed firsthand the wreckage of the Maritime Operation Helicopter (HOM) AW-139 that crashed in the stadium area of the RMN Lumut Base and the wreckage of the Fennec aircraft at the Lumut RMN Base Swimming Complex.

In a press conference held after the visit, the Minister of Defence expressed condolences to all family members of the personnel and members involved in the incident. The Ministry of Defence, the Malaysian Armed Forces, and the Royal Malaysian Navy will fully assist in the burial process of all victims involved and ensure that all their families receive the appropriate benefits, compensation, and incentives.

Earlier, the Minister of Defence, the Commander of the Armed Forces, and the Secretary-General of the Ministry of Defence were present at the 96 Armed Forces Hospital (96 HAT), RMN Base Lumut, to offer comfort and spend time meeting with the families of the victims involved in the incident.



In other developments, all the bodies of the victims involved were initially at the 96 HAT before being transferred to the Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital, Ipoh, for autopsy procedures. Subsequently, the bodies of all the victims will be buried at locations chosen by their families once all arrangements are completed.

Also present during the visit were the Deputy Commander of the Navy, Vice Admiral Dato’ Zulhelmy bin Ithnain, and the Air Commander of the RMN, Rear Admiral Ahmad Sharifudin bin Abu Bakar.

LUMUT, 23 Apr 24 – Panglima Angkatan Tentera, Jeneral Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Mohammad bin Ab Rahman telah meluangkan masa bersama-sama Menteri Pertahanan, YB Dato’ Seri Khaled bin Nordin dan Ketua Setiausaha Kementerian Pertahanan, Dato’ Seri Isham bin Ishak melawat ke lokasi kejadian helikopter milik Tentera Laut Diraja Malaysia (TLDM) yang terhempas di Pangkalan TLDM Lumut, Perak semasa raptai sambutan Hari Ulang Tahun TLDM Ke-90.

Panglima Angkatan Tentera bersama-sama Menteri Pertahanan dan Ketua Setiausaha Kementerian Pertahanan telah meluangkan masa kira-kira 30 minit di lokasi kejadian dan turut mendapat penerangan daripada pegawai yang melaksanakan operasi di lokasi serta melihat sendiri keadaan bangkai pesawat Helikopter Operasi Maritim (HOM) AW-139 yang terhempas di kawasan Stadium Pangkalan TLDM Lumut serta bangkai pesawat Fennec yang terhempas di Kompleks Kolam Renang Pangkalan TLDM Lumut.

Panglima Angkatan Tentera bersama-sama Menteri Pertahanan dan Ketua Setiausaha Kementerian Pertahanan telah meluangkan masa kira-kira 30 minit di lokasi kejadian dan turut mendapat penerangan daripada pegawai yang melaksanakan operasi di lokasi serta melihat sendiri keadaan bangkai pesawat Helikopter Operasi Maritim (HOM) AW-139 yang terhempas di kawasan Stadium Pangkalan TLDM Lumut serta bangkai pesawat Fennec yang terhempas di Kompleks Kolam Renang Pangkalan TLDM Lumut.

Dalam sidang media yang diadakan selepas daripada lawatan berkenaan, Menteri Pertahanan menzahirkan ucapan takziah kepada seluruh ahli keluarga pegawai dan anggota yang terlibat dalam insiden berkenaan. Kementerian Pertahanan, Angkatan Tentera Malaysia dan Tentera Laut Diraja Malaysia akan membantu sepenuhnya proses pengebumian semua mangsa yang terlibat serta akan memastikan semua ahli keluarga mereka memperolehi faedah, pampasan dan insentif yang selayaknya.

Terdahulu, Menteri Pertahanan, Panglima Angkatan Tentera dan Ketua Setiausaha Kementerian Pertahanan telah hadir di 96 Hospital Angkatan Tentera (96 HAT), Pangkalan TLDM Lumut bagi menyantuni dan meluangkan masa berjumpa dengan ahli keluarga mangsa yang terlibat dalam insiden berkenaan.

Dalam perkembangan lain, semua jenazah mangsa terlibat telah berada di 96 HAT sebelum dibawa ke Hospital Raja Permaisuri Bainun, Ipoh untuk proses bedah siasat. Kemudian, jenazah kesemua mangsa akan disemadikan di tempat yang dipilih keluarga mangsa setelah semua urusan selesai.

Turut hadir dalam lawatan berkenaan adalah Timbalan Panglima Tentera Laut, Laksamana Madya Dato’ Zulhelmy bin Ithnain dan Panglima Udara TLDM, Laksamana Pertama Ahmad Sharifudin bin Abu Bakar.
