The Malaysian Ministry of Defence (MINDEF) has categorically denied claims circulating on social media that the termination or reassignment of senior military officials, including the Chief of Defence Forces, is linked to a RM16 billion helicopter contract.

In a statement, MINDEF clarified that there is no truth to these allegations and assured the public that the changes within the Armed Forces leadership are routine administrative matters. The ministry emphasized that these speculations are baseless and have no connection to the ongoing helicopter leasing process.

MINDEF has taken immediate action to address the dissemination of false information. Reports have been lodged with the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) and the police to identify and prosecute those responsible for spreading the misinformation. The ministry also reminded the public that sharing fake news is a punishable offense under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.

The rumors, which first surfaced on social media, alleged a sweeping termination of military commanders over issues of integrity related to a helicopter procurement contract. MINDEF strongly condemned the circulation of such misleading information, warning that it could harm public perception of the nation’s defense sector and disrupt national peace and security.

MINDEF urged Malaysians to verify the authenticity of news before sharing it and to refrain from believing unverified claims, particularly those that go viral on social media platforms. The ministry remains committed to maintaining transparency and accountability while safeguarding the integrity of the Malaysian Armed Forces.

For now, the ministry reassures the public that the country’s defense operations remain unaffected, and any leadership changes are part of normal administrative protocols.
