Malaysian Armed Forces to Implement New BMI Policy and Stricter Recruitment Criteria MY ATM 2nd February 20252nd February 2025 The Malaysian Armed Forces (ATM) is set to implement a new Body Mass Index (BMI) policy that will affect both officers and personnel, particularly within the Malaysian Army. This policy takes into account age range and the physical demands of different military roles. Army Chief General Tan Sri Muhammad Hafizuddeain Jantan stated that, as a military organization, fundamental regulations and conditions, such as career course eligibility and promotion considerations, will continue to be based on BMI standards. Currently, the BMI threshold for army officers and personnel is set at 27 or below. In addition to the BMI policy, the Malaysian Army is also adopting a more flexible approach to recruiting young soldiers, particularly for those with specialized skills. The move comes as the army enlists approximately 5,000 new personnel annually. While the recruitment challenge is not yet critical, General Muhammad Hafizuddeain expressed concern over the declining pool of high-quality, eligible candidates for military service. He further highlighted that this recruitment issue is not unique to Malaysia but is also being faced by other nations, including Australia. The implementation of these new policies is aimed at ensuring the Malaysian Army maintains a strong, capable, and physically fit force to meet future operational demands. Like this:Like Loading...
