Third AMNEX Begins in Penang Defence Relations Ops & Training 16th August 202516th August 2025 The 3rd ASEAN Multilateral Naval Exercise (AMNEX) 2025 begins today with the opening ceremony officiated by the Western Fleet Commander, Vice Admiral Dato’ Baharudin bin Wan Md Nor. The ceremony was also attended by the Assistant Chief of Staff Operation and Training, Rear Admiral Dato’ Pahlawan Mohd Fadzli Kamal bin Mohaldin and Deputy Western Fleet Commander, First Admiral Ahmad Sapuan Fathi bin Hj Muhammad. Earlier on 15 August, 10 ships taking part in the exercise arrived at the Swettenham Pier Cruise Terminal with three ships from the Royal Malaysian Navy and one ship from Brunei, Indonesia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam, respectively. This year’s AMNEX is themed “Camaraderie and Coaction”, with the aim to enhance joint maritime operations, confidence-building and maritime domain awareness. The week-long exercise begins with the harbour phase that are filled with activities including the ASEAN Navies’ City Parade on 17 August in conjunction with Hari Buletin 4.0 and pre-sail discussions. The at-sea phase will commence on 21 August with the ASEAN Fleet Review, the ceremonial parade of ships to showcase unity and maritime power in the ASEAN region.
