Malaysia Army and Australia Continue to Strengthen Defence Relationship

KUALA LUMPUR, 19 August 2021 – Bilateral relations between the Malaysian Army (TDM) and the Australian Army, were further strengthened through a virtual discussion session between the Chief of Army (COA), General Tan Sri Datuk Zamrose bin Mohd Zain and his Australian counterpart Chief of Army, Lieutenant General Rick Burr, held at the Army Operations Center (POTD), Wisma Pertahanan today.

This virtual discussion was held as one of the measures to maintain and strengthen the relationship between the two Army organizations.

Among the topics discussed were the COVID-19 pandemic situation and the assistance of military deployments in both countries in helping efforts to curb the epidemic.

Existing cooperation and bilateral relations, especially in the aspect of military training such as Ex BERSAMA SHIELD, Ex BERSAMA LIMA / GOLD, Ex SUMAN WARRIOR, Ex SOUTHERN TIGER, Ex Dusk / DAWN TIGER and also Ex HARINGGAROO were also discussed.

Apart from that, both armies also talked about exchange programs and officer career courses.

Tan Sri COA also voiced the idea to further enhance this bilateral relationship in the long run with the proposed implementation of the Army Top 10 professional interaction program, Cyber Security Program and also CBRNE between the two countries.

At the end of the video conference, Tan Sri COA also expressed his appreciation to his colleagues for Australia’s contribution to global peace, especially in Afghanistan.

Such bilateral discussion sessions are in line with the Fourth Pillar of the COA’s Supreme Order, namely “Strengthening Defence Relations” which focuses on aspects of strengthening defence cooperation at the regional and international levels.

KUALA LUMPUR, 19 Ogos 2021 – Hubungan bilateral di antara Tentera Darat Malaysia (TDM) dan Australian Army, terus diperkasa melalui sesi perbincangan secara maya di antara Panglima Tentera Darat (PTD), Jeneral Tan Sri Datuk Zamrose bin Mohd Zain bersama rakan sejawatnya, Australian Chief of Army, Lieutenant General Rick Burr, yang diadakan di Pusat Operasi Tentera Darat (POTD), Wisma Pertahanan pada hari ini.

Perbincangan secara maya ini diadakan sebagai salah satu langkah untuk mengekal dan mengeratkan hubungan di antara kedua-dua organisasi Tentera Darat.

Di antara topik yang dibincangkan adalah menyentuh situasi pandemik COVID-19 dan bantuan penugasan tentera di kedua-dua negara dalam membantu usaha mengekang wabak tersebut.

Turut dibincangkan adalah jalinan kerjasama dan hubungan bilateral yang sedia terjalin terutamanya dalam aspek latihan ketenteraan seperti Eks BERSAMA SHIELD, Eks BERSAMA LIMA / GOLD, Eks SUMAN WARRIOR, Eks SOUTHERN TIGER, Eks Dusk / DAWN TIGER dan juga Eks HARINGGAROO.

Selain daripada itu, turut dibincangkan adalah berkaitan program pertukaran jurulatih dan kursus kerjaya pegawai.

Selain itu juga, Tan Sri PTD turut menyuarakan idea dalam meningkatkan lagi hubungan bilateral ini dalam jangka masa panjang dengan cadangan pelaksanaan program interaksi profesional Army Top 10, Cyber Security Programme dan juga CBRNE di antara kedua-dua negara.

Di akhir sidang video, Tan Sri PTD turut merakamkan ucapan penghargaan kepada rakan sejawatnya di atas sumbangan Australia ke atas keamanan sejagat khususnya di Afghanistan.

Sesi perbincangan bilateral sebegini adalah sejajar dengan Tonggak Keempat Perintah Ulung PTD iaitu “Pengukuhan Hubungan Pertahanan” yang memberikan penumpuan kepada aspek pengukuhan kerjasama pertahanan di peringkat serantau dan antarabangsa.
