Exercise ABABIL 2021 to Assess and Test the Capability, Competency and Readiness of RMAF

KOTA BELUD, 14 Sep 21 – The Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) has conducted Exercise ABABIL 2021 from 7 September 7 to today. The ABABIL exercise includes Air to Air Missile Firing (AAMF), Air to Surface Missile Firing (ASMF) and Air to Ground (ATG) training.

A series of AAMF and ASMF firing exercises have already started on 7 to 10 September 21 at Labuan Air Base, Kota Belud Airfield and South China Sea waters.

The Chief of Air Force, General Tan Sri Ackbal bin Hj Abdul Samad RMAF accompanied the Chief of Defence Forces, General Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Hj Affendi bin Buang RMAF to witness the demonstration of Air to Ground Firing (ATG) held at the Air Target Range (LASARUD), Kota Belud, Sabah. Also present were the Secretary General of the Ministry of Defence, Dato’ Sri Muez bin Abd Aziz; Deputy Chief of Army, Lieutenant General Dato’ Mohammad bin Ab Rahman represented the Commander of the Army; Deputy Commander of the Eastern Fleet, First Admiral Sazali bin Shoib represented the Chief of Navy as well as several senior military officers and senior officials of the Ministry of Defence.

The main objective of this exercise is to test the armament capability of RMAF combat assets in the conduct of air operations, to assess the readiness of RMAF assets and fighter aircraft armament system and to improve the competence of RMAF human resource assets, especially pilots and crew, RMAF Special Forces (PASKAU) and integrated combat logistics elements.

The ABABIL 2021 exercise this time involved a total of 446 crew and members of the RMAF, including from the RMAF Special Air Force (PASKAU) and RMAF aircraft from various categories such as F/A-18D Hornet, Sukhoi SU-30MKM and Hawk 208; the Hercules C130H transport aircraft; Beechcraft B200T maritime aircraft and EC 725 AP helicopters.

The ATG firing demonstration today saw RMAF fighter jets firing at identified targets. The firing of all these weapons assets on target clearly proves the level of professionalism, expertise, capability and readiness of the people and combat assets of the RMAF in national defence missions and operations. The success of today’s training is also an achievement gained through their endless commitment and sacrifice to ensure that the RMAF’s alertness is always at the highest level for the sake of national sovereignty.

Despite the challenges of the global health crisis situation this year, the RMAF has made an orderly plan by taking into account various factors including constraints and challenges so that this exercise can be implemented optimally and achieve the set objectives. It is in line with the Fourth Thrust enshrined in the Chief of Air Force’s Supreme Order which is “Strengthening the Operational Capability of the RMAF”. Towards strengthening its operational capabilities, the RMAF needs to optimise resources to the needs of operational missions, exercises and skills training as well as ensure systems and human resources that are always ready.

Appreciation and thanks also to the Royal Malaysian Navy (RMN), Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM), Sabah Region Malaysian Marine Department, Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM) and various agencies directly or indirectly involved in the success of Exercise ABABIL 2021. Not forgetting the headquarters/bases/squadrons/teams under the RMAF itself with the Commander of Air Operations, Lieutenant General Dato’ Hj Mohammad Salleh bin Hj Osman RMAF acting as Exercise Advisor and Commander of Air Region 1, Maj Gen Dato’ Zahani bin Zainal Abidin RMAF as the Director of Exercise.

In line with the RMAF’s vision to be the dominant and full-spectrum air force, the RMAF will continue to ensure a high level of capability, alertness and interoperability is a priority, especially in safeguarding national sovereignty and supporting the Defence White Paper with the vision of “Malaysia as a nation, safe, sovereign and prosperous”.


PELAKSANAAN EKSESAIS ABABIL 2021 BAGI MENILAI DAN MENGUJI KEUPAYAAN, KOMPETENSI DAN KESIAGAAN ASET TUDM

KOTA BELUD,14 Sep 21 – Tentera Udara Diraja Malaysia (TUDM) telah melaksanakan Eksesais ABABIL 2021 bermula 7 September hingga kemuncaknya pada hari ini. Eksesais ABABIL merangkumi latihan Tembakan Misil Udara ke Udara (Air to Air Missile Firing – AAMF), Tembakan Misil Udara ke Permukaan (Air to Surface Missile Firing – ASMF) dan Tembakan Udara ke Permukaan Bumi (Air to Ground – ATG).

Beberapa siri latihan penembakan AAMF dan penembakan ASMF telahpun bermula pada 7 hingga 10 September 21 yang lalu bertempat di Pangkalan Udara Labuan, Lapang Sasar Udara Kota Belud dan kawasan perairan Laut China Selatan.

Panglima Tentera Udara, Jeneral Tan Sri Ackbal bin Hj Abdul Samad TUDM telah mengiringi Panglima Angkatan Tentera, Jeneral Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Hj Affendi bin Buang TUDM bagi menyaksikan demonstrasi Tembakan Udara ke Permukaan Bumi (ATG) yang dilaksanakan di Lapang Sasar Udara (LASARUD), Kota Belud, Sabah. Turut serta ialah Ketua Setiausaha Kementerian Pertahanan, Dato’ Sri Muez bin Abd Aziz; Timbalan Panglima Tentera Darat, Leftenan Jeneral Dato’ Mohammad bin Ab Rahman mewakili Panglima Tentera Darat; Timbalan Panglima Armada Timur, Laksmana Pertama Sazali bin Shoib mewakil Panglima Tentera Laut serta beberapa pegawai kanan tentera dan pegawai kanan Kementerian Pertahanan.

Objektif utama eksesais ini antaranya adalah untuk menguji keupayaan persenjataan aset-aset tempur milik TUDM di dalam pelaksanaan operasi udara, untuk menilai tahap kesiagaan (readiness) aset-aset TUDM dan sistem persenjataan pesawat tempur dan untuk meningkatkan kompetensi aset sumber manusia TUDM khususnya juruterbang dan anak-anak kapal, Pasukan Khas TUDM (PASKAU) dan elemen-elemen logistik tempur secara bersepadu.

Eksesais ABABIL 2021 pada kali ini melibatkan seramai 446 anak-anak kapal dan anggota-anggota TUDM termasuk dari Pasukan Khas Udara TUDM (PASKAU) serta membabitkan pesawat-pesawat TUDM dari pelbagai kategori seperti pesawat tempur F/A-18D Hornet, Sukhoi SU-30MKM dan Hawk 208; pesawat angkut Hercules C130H; pesawat maritim Beechcraft B200T dan helikopter EC 725 AP.

Demonstrasi penembakan udara ke permukaan bumi (ATG) pada hari ini telah menyaksikan pesawat pejuang TUDM membuat penembakan ke sasaran yang dikenalpasti. Penembakan kesemua aset-aset persenjataan ini yang mengenai sasaran jelas membuktikan tahap profesionalisme, kepakaran, keupayaan dan kesiagaan warga dan aset-aset tempur TUDM dalam misi dan operasi pertahanan negara. Kejayaan latihan pada hari ini juga adalah merupakan pencapaian yang diperolehi melalui komitmen dan pengorbanan mereka yang tidak terhingga bagi memastikan kesiagaan TUDM sentiasa berada di tahap tertinggi demi kedaulatan negara.

Meskipun terdapat cabaran situasi krisis kesihatan global pada tahun ini, namun TUDM telah membuat perancangan yang teratur dengan mengambil kira pelbagai faktor termasuk kekangan dan cabaran agar eksesais ini dapat dilaksanakan dengan sebaik-baiknya dan mencapai objektif yang ditetapkan. Ianya selaras dengan Teras Keempat yang termaktub di dalam Perintah Ulung Panglima Tentera Udara iaitu “Memperkasakan Keupayaan Operasi TUDM”. Ke arah memperkasakan keupayaan operasinya, TUDM perlu mengoptimumkan sumber kepada keperluan misi operasi, eksesais dan latihan kemahiran selain menentukan sistem dan sumber manusia yang sentiasa bersiap siaga.

Penghargaan dan terima kasih juga kepada Tentera Laut Diraja Malaysia (TLDM), Polis Diraja Malaysia (PDRM), Jabatan Laut Malaysia Wilayah Sabah, Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM) serta pelbagai agensi yang terlibat secara langsung atau tidak langsung dalam menjayakan Eksesais ABABIL 2021. Tidak terkecuali terrmasuk markas/pangkalan/skuadron/pasukan di bawah TUDM sendiri dengan Panglima Operasi Udara, Leftenan Jeneral Dato’ Hj Mohammad Salleh bin Hj Osman TUDM yang bertindak sebagai Penasihat Eksesais dan Panglima Wilayah Udara 1, Mej Jen Dato’ Zahani bin Zainal Abidin TUDM sebagai Pengarah Eksesais.

Sejajar dengan visi TUDM untuk menjadi kuasa udara yang dominan dan berspektrum penuh, TUDM akan terus memastikan tahap keupayaan, kesiagaan dan kebolehoperasian (interoperability) yang tinggi menjadi keutamaan khususnya di dalam menjaga kedaulatan negara serta mendukung Kertas Putih Pertahanan dengan visi “Malaysia sebagai sebuah negara yang selamat, berdaulat dan makmur”.
