Today marks a historic moment as the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Government of Malaysia and the Republic of Turkey on Government-to-Government (G2G) procurement for Defence Products has been successfully signed.

I believe the signing of this MoU is highly beneficial to both countries, especially Malaysia, considering Turkey’s reputation as a ‘powerhouse’ with strengths in defence technology manufacturing and its successful positioning of its defence industry as one of the world’s leading.

To demonstrate commitment to implementing this MoU, both countries have agreed to establish a special committee to plan strategic initiatives and monitor the progress of the MoU’s implementation.

May the special relationship between the two countries in the context of defence continue to be strengthened, allowing the development of the national defence industry, following the example set by Turkey around 40 years ago.

At the same time, I have witnessed the Handover Ceremony of the Letter of Acceptance (LOA) for the purchase of three Littoral Mission Ships (LMS) Batch 2 by the Government to Turkey’s defence company, STM. STM has committed to completing the three LMS within the stipulated timeframe of three years and six months.

Hari ini merupakan detik yang bersejarah kerana Memorandum Persefahaman (MoU) antara kerajaan Malaysia dan Republik Türkiye mengenai perolehan Kerajaan kepada Kerajaan (G2G) untuk Produk Pertahanan telah berjaya dimeterai.Saya percaya pemeteraian MoU ini amat bermanfaat kepada kedua-dua buah negara, terutamanya kepada Malaysia, mengambilkira reputasi Türkiye sebagai ‘powerhouse’ yang mempunyai kekuatan dalam bidang pembuatan teknologi pertahanan dan berjaya memposisi industri pertahanannya sebagai salah satu yang ternama di dunia.

Saya percaya pemeteraian MoU ini amat bermanfaat kepada kedua-dua buah negara, terutamanya kepada Malaysia, mengambilkira reputasi Türkiye sebagai ‘powerhouse’ yang mempunyai kekuatan dalam bidang pembuatan teknologi pertahanan dan berjaya memposisi industri pertahanannya sebagai salah satu yang ternama di dunia.

Bagi membuktikan komitmen dalam melaksanakan MoU ini, kedua-dua buah negara bersetuju untuk menubuhkan jawatankuasa khas bagi merancang inisiatif strategik dan memantau kemajuan pelaksanaan MoU ini.

Pada masa yang sama, saya telah menyaksikan Majlis Penyerahan Surat Setuju Terima (LOA) pembelian 3 Littoral Mission Ship (LMS) Batch 2 oleh Kerajaan kepada syarikat pertahanan Türkiye, STM. STM telah menyatakan komitmen untuk 3 LMS tersebut disiapkan dalam tempoh yang telah ditetapkan, iaitu dalam tempoh 3 tahun 6 bulan.

Semoga hubungan istimewa antara kedua negara dalam konteks pertahanan ini dapat terus diperkukuh dan membolehkan industri pertahanan negara dibangunkan, mengambil contoh langkah yang diambil oleh Türkiye sekitar 40 tahun yang lalu.
