The Royal Malaysian Navy’s (RMN) second batch of Littoral Mission Ship (LMSB2) is set for completion by 2027, marking a significant milestone in enhancing Malaysia’s maritime defence capabilities. The project officially began with a symbolic “steel cutting” ceremony held at Istanbul Shipyard, Türkiye. This event, officiated by RMN Chief Admiral Datuk Zulhelmy Ithnain, signifies the start of the ship construction process. The LMSB2 is based on the ADA-class corvette design, selected through a Government-to-Government (G2G) agreement, with Türkiye’s STM serving as the main contractor. This class of ships is currently operational in the Turkish Navy and Pakistan Navy, with similar vessels under construction or testing for Pakistan and Ukraine.

The ADA-class LMSB2 is equipped with advanced technology, offering multi-dimensional warfare capabilities, including anti-surface, anti-air, and electronic warfare. These ships also feature sophisticated weapon systems and sensors designed to enhance RMN’s combat and operational efficiency, strengthening Malaysia’s maritime domain defence.
This initiative represents a strategic step in bolstering the RMN’s fleet readiness to address evolving maritime security challenges.
