Capability and Readiness Exercise (CaREx) Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear (CBRN) 1/2019

PULAU PINANG, 22 Jul 2019 – The Malaysian Armed Forces ‘s Health Services Division (BPK) conducted the Chemistry, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear (CBRN) Series 1/2019 Exercise, Exercise (CaREx) Sg. Ara, Penang. The exercise involved the deployment of the CBRN team to deal with pollution of chemicals that could have killed the victims. The exercise involved 18 officers and 69 other ranks from the Armed Forces Health Services CBRN (PKAT) team and 12 RAJD Squadron (CBRNe).

This exercise is based on Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR). This exercise scenario is based on a Tsunami that struck an industrial area, North of Peninsular Malaysia. The National Disaster Management Agency (NADMA) activated the disaster plan and the Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF) is responsible for preparing for any possible chemical contamination especially in the Bayan Lepas industrial area, Penang.

The exercise was the initiative of the PKAT and 12 RAJD Squadron (CBRNe) Army to increase the competence of employees and personnel in the face of the CBRN threat and disaster situation. The exercise was also aimed at demonstrating the management and handling of CBRN threats by the MAF to 41 public agency participants who will attend the Asia Pacific Conference on Public Health jointly with the College of Public Health Medicine, Academy of Medicine of Malaysia and BPK on July 22, 2019.

Also present at the training were LG Dato’ Pahlawan (Dr) Md Amin bin Muslan, Director General of the Malaysian Armed Forces Health Services Department.
