MAF 88th Anniversary – “Interesting Facts About the MAF” : Roles and Functions of the Malaysian Army

The Malaysian Army is a unique and distinctive organisation. There are 16 Corps and Regiments with their respective functions and roles. Their functions and roles vary based on tasks and expertise. Therefore, based on the expertise, the Corps and Regiment are divided into 3 groups, namely:

COMBAT GROUPS – This group involves combat personnel and systems who are at the forefront (front line) in the war. This group consists of the Corps and Regiment of the Royal Malay Regiment (RMR), Royal Ranger Regiment (RRD), the Border Regiment (RS) and the Royal Armoured Corps (KAD).

COMBAT SUPPORT GROUP – This second group consists of personnel and military systems that support the Combat Group directly in the war. It consists of Corps and Regiments namely the Royal Signals Regiment (RSD), Royal Engineer Regiment (RAJD), Royal Artillery Regiment (RAD), Royal Military Police Corps (KPTD) and Royal Intelligence Corps (KRD).

SERVICE SUPPORT GROUP – The role of this group is to assist the Combat Group and Combat Support Group in the aspects of logistics and maintenance services as well as other administrative services. It consists of Corps and Regiments namely the Royal Electrical and Machinery Engineer Corps (KJLJD), General Service Corps (KPA), Royal Service Corps (KPD), Royal Ordnance Corps (KOD), Royal Health Corps (KKD) and the Armed Forces Religious Corps (KAGAT ).

TERRITORIAL ARMY – The Territorial Army Regiment is a Regiment made up of volunteers. They are the second line in defending the country. The skills of the personnel are comparable to those of regular personnel and in fact some have certain expertise such as telecommunications, water supply, port operation and railway operation.

Tentera Darat Malaysia adalah sebuah organisasi yang unik dan tersendiri. Terdapat 16 Kor dan Rejimen yang mempunyai fungsi dan peranan masing-masing. Fungsi dan peranan mereka adalah berbeza berdasarkan tugas dan kepakaran. Justeru itu, berdasarkan kepada kepakaran, maka Kor dan Rejimen ini dibahagikan kepada 3 kelompok iaitu :

KELOMPOK TEMPUR – Kelompok ini melibatkan anggota dan sistem tempur yang berada di hadapan sekali (barisan hadapan) dalam peperangan. Kelompok ini terdiri daripada Kor dan Rejimen iaitu Rejimen Askar Melayu Diraja (RAMD), Rejimen Renjer Diraja (RRD), Rejimen Sempadan (RS) dan Kor Armor Diraja (KAD).

KELOMPOK BANTUAN TEMPUR – Kelompok kedua ini terdiri daripada anggota dan sistem tentera yang membantu Kelompok Tempur secara langsung di dalam peperangan. Ianya terdiri daripada Kor dan Rejimen iaitu Rejimen Semboyan Diraja (RSD), Rejimen Askar Jurutera Diraja (RAJD), Rejimen Artileri Diraja (RAD), Kor Polis Tentera Diraja (KPTD) dan Kor Risik Diraja (KRD).

KELOMPOK BANTUAN PERKHIDMATAN – Peranan kelompok ini adalah untuk membantu Kelompok Tempur dan Bantuan Tempur dalam aspek perkhidmatan lojistik dan senggaraan serta perkhidmatan lain yang berunsur pentadbiran. Ia mengandungi Kor dan Rejimen iaitu Kor Jurutera Letrik dan Jentera Diraja (KJLJD), Kor Perkhidmatan Am (KPA), Kor Perkhidmatan Diraja (KPD), Kor Ordnans Diraja (KOD), Kor Kesihatan Diraja (KKD) dan Kor Agama Angkatan Tentera (KAGAT).

ASKAR WATANIAH – Rejimen Askar Wataniah adalah Rejimen yang dianggotai oleh para sukarelawan. Mereka ini adalah barisan kedua di dalam mempertahankan Negara. Kemahiran anggota adalah setanding dengan anggota tetap, malah ada memiliki kepakaran tertentu seperti telekomunikasi, perbekalan air, pengendalian pelabuhan dan pengendalian keretapi.
