MAF Develops Integrated Digital Telephony System (IDTS)

KUALA LUMPUR, 21 March 2022 – The Secretary General of the Ministry of Defense, Dato’ Sri Muez bin Abd Aziz has completed the Launching Ceremony of the Integrated Digital Telephony System (IDTS) of the Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF) at Kem Kementah, Kuala Lumpur today.

MAF IDTS is one of the achievements for the cyber and electromagnetic domain aspects of MAF which is developed by the Defence Cyber and Electromagnetic Division (BSEP) since 30 June 2021. This digital telephony system aims to replace the 153 exchanges that operate the existing telephony systems of the Ministry of Defence and the MAF which are obsolete, not economical to repair and lags behind in terms of the use of communication technology today.

The integrated communication system developed in collaboration with Telekom Malaysia (TM) TM Group is based on digital system products and the latest technology in addition to its development covering aspects of numbering system restructuring, rental, call charges, software licenses, equipment maintenance, support services and training to users.

This system also comes together with the Secured Communication Application called Own Unified Restricted Application (OurApp) which is developed homegrown by the MAF and TM. This IDTS is operated with 8 Nodes using Multi-SIP (Session Initiation Protocol) with Public Switching Telephone Network (PSTN) as the inbound and outbound line and connected to the user placement through the MinDefNet network. The combination of technology, the use of MinDefNet and integrated handling has brought communication security features to IDTS.

The development of this IDTS will also go through the following four phases namely;

a. Phase 1 – involves 12 locations covering 8 nodes and 4 main bases (June 2021 – June 2022).

b. Phase 2 – involves 37 locations including formation headquarters and bases (June 2022 – June 2023).

c. Phase 3 – for camps and other small settlements (June 2023 – Dec 2023).
