Langkawi, 19 December 2023 โ The Royal Malaysian Navy (RMN) continues to enhance its readiness to ensure safety in the Malacca Strait by conducting Coordinated Patrol Operation Malaysia-Indonesia Series 162/23 (Op PATKOR MALINDO 162/23) in collaboration with the Indonesian National Defence Force Navy (TNI-AL) from 6 to 19 December 2023.
The Western Fleet Commander, Vice Admiral Dato Ts. Shamsuddin bin Hj Ludin, officiated the Closing Ceremony at the Naval Region 3 Headquarters, Langkawi, on 19 December. Also present were the Commander of the 1st Fleet Command, TNI-AL, Rear Admiral TNI Achmad Wibisono, S.E. CHRMP, and the Commander of Naval Region 3, Commodore Roslee bin Mohamad Isa.
This fourth edition of the operation for the year 2023 involved RMN vessels KD LAKSAMANA TUN ABDUL JAMIL and KD JERAI, along with TNI-AL vessels KRI LEPU and KRI TORANI. All these assets conducted patrol operations at sea from 8 to 17 December after the Opening Ceremony at the Main Naval Base 1 (LANTAMAL 1), Belawan, Indonesia, on December 6. While at sea, various capacity-building activities for both RMN and TNI-AL were executed, including Patrol Exercises, Flag Hoisting, Tactical Maneuvers, and Information Exchange. This joint exercise contributed to enhancing interoperability between the two navies in ensuring the safety of users in the worldโs primary shipping lane.
The implementation of Op PATKOR MALINDO, now in its 162nd series since its inception in 1983, showcases the strong defense cooperation between RMN and TNI-AL. This operation demonstrates the commitment of both navies to conduct joint operations with a primary focus on ensuring security in the Malacca Strait. Op PATKOR MALINDO serves as a vital instrument for RMN and TNI-AL to collaborate in addressing safety threats and transboundary crimes in these waters.
Such collaborative opportunities will be fully utilized by RMN to manage safety challenges in the Malacca Strait. The integrity of the cooperation between RMN and TNI-AL through Op PATKOR MALINDO is instrumental in ensuring the safety of the Malacca Strait from maritime law violations, thereby strengthening the confidence of the maritime community in this region.

Tentera Laut Diraja Malaysia (TLDM) terus meningkatkan kesiapsiagaan dalam memastikan keselamatan di perairan Selat Melaka dengan melaksanakan Operasi Patroli Terkoordinasi Malaysia Indonesia Siri 162/23 (Op PATKOR MALINDO 162/23) bersama Tentara Nasional Indonesia-Angkatan Laut (TNI-AL) dari 6 hingga 19 Disember 2023.
Panglima Armada Barat, Laksamana Madya Dato Ts. Shamsuddin bin Hj Ludin telah menyempurnakan Majlis Penutup di Markas Wilayah Laut 3, Langkawi pada 19 Disember. Turut hadir, Panglima Komando Armada 1, TNI-AL, Laksamana Muda TNI Achmad Wibisono, S.E. CHRMP, dan Panglima Wilayah Laut 3, Laksamana Pertama Roslee bin Mohamad Isa.
Operasi ini yang merupakan edisi keempat bagi tahun 2023 telah melibatkan KD LAKSAMANA TUN ABDUL JAMIL dan KD JERAI dari TLDM serta KRI LEPU dan KRI TORANI dari TNI-AL. Kesemua aset ini telah melaksanakan operasi rondaan di laut dari 8 hingga 17 Disember selepas Majlis Pembukaan di Pangkalan Utama Angkatan Laut 1 (LANTAMAL 1), Belawan, Indonesia pada 6 Disember. Sewaktu di laut, pelbagai aktiviti peningkatan kebolehoperasian TLDM dan TNI-AL telah dilaksanakan melibatkan latihan Panduarah, Kibaran Bendera, Manuvera Taktis dan Pertukaran Maklumat. Latihan bersama tersebut menyumbang kepada peningkatan kebolehoperasian antara kedua angkatan laut dalam memastikan keselamatan pengguna di laluan perkapalan utama dunia.
Pelaksanaan Op PATKOR MALINDO yang telah memasuki siri ke-162 sejak dimulakan pada tahun 1983 membuktikan jalinan kerjasama pertahanan antara TLDM dan TNI-AL yang kukuh. Operasi ini juga menzahirkan komitmen kedua-dua angkatan laut melaksanakan operasi gabungan dengan fokus utama memastikan keamanan di Selat Melaka. Op PATKOR MALINDO merupakan instrumen TLDM dan TNI-AL berganding bahu di dalam mengekang ancaman keselamatan dan jenayah rentas sempadan yang lain di perairan ini.
Peluang kerjasama sebegini akan sentiasa dimanfaatkan sepenuhnya oleh TLDM dalam menguruskan cabaran keselamatan di perairan Selat Melaka. Keutuhan jalinan kerjasama TLDM dan TNI-AL melalui Op PATKOR MALINDO mampu memastikan perairan Selat Melaka selamat dari unsur-unsur perlanggaran undang-undang maritim, seterusnya mengukuhkan keyakinan komuniti maritim di perairan ini.
