Soldier Dies After Alleged Rough Handling at Sarawak Army Camp – Police and Military Probe Underway

KUALA LUMPUR: A 21-year-old Malaysian soldier, Private Muhammad Muqriz Aseri from the 20th Battalion of the Royal Malay Regiment (20 RMR), was found dead at Kem Sri Miri in Sarawak following suspected physical assault. The Malaysian Army has confirmed that a post-mortem at Miri Hospital determined the cause of death as contusio cordis (blunt force trauma to the heart), caused by a severe impact to the chest.

The case has been handed over to the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) for a criminal investigation, while the Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF) has also initiated an internal inquiry to determine the exact circumstances leading to the soldier’s death.
