Malaysian Army Dismisses 41 Personnel for Bullying and Abuse Since 2019

RANTAU PANJANG – The Malaysian Army (TDM) has dismissed 12 officers and 29 other ranks over the past five years for offences involving bullying and abuse of junior personnel since 2019.

Army Chief, General Tan Sri Muhammad Hafizuddeain Jantan, said the action reflects the army’s firm stance in tackling such misconduct.

“Such actions are a serious betrayal of the force because we view every member as family, as brothers and sisters,” he said.

“The TDM will not compromise with any individual, whether senior officers or lower-ranking personnel, found guilty of involvement in bullying.”

He made the statement during a press conference following his visit to the 8th Brigade’s operational area at Pos Tok’O in conjunction with the Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebrations on Monday.

Muhammad Hafizuddeain added that the army’s top leadership constantly reminds all personnel not to engage in such behaviour.

The media has previously reported several cases of bullying among military personnel, some of which have resulted in permanent injuries or fatalities.

In the most recent case, on 26 March, a 21-year-old soldier from Puchong, Selangor, was believed to have died from internal injuries after allegedly being abused by senior personnel at a camp in Miri in the early hours of Monday.
