Nancy Pelosi on Working Visit to Malaysia

Subang, 2 August 22- Speaker of the United States House of Representatives, Nancy Pelosi arrived at Subang Air Base this morning in conjunction with an Official Working Visit to four Asian countries including Malaysia. Pelosi and the congress delegation arrived on a special plane at about 10.30 am and were greeted by the Commander of Subang Air Base, Brig Gen Omar bin Hj Dawami RMAF as well as the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Datuk Mohd Rashid Hasnon, the United States Ambassador to Malaysia, Brian D McFeeters and the Subang Air Base executive group.

Also in her delegation are the Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee, Gregory Meeks; Chairman of the Veterans Affairs Committee, Mark Tanako and three members of Congress namely Suzan Delbene, Raja Krishnamoorthi and Andy Kim.

Nancy Pelosi is the number three leader on the presidential succession list and the only woman to have served as Speaker of the House. This visit, among other things, focuses on issues of common security, economic sharing and democratic governance in the Indo-Pacific region.

For historical records, the United States established diplomatic relations with Malaysia in 1957 following the independence of Malaya. In April 2014, Washington and Kuala Lumpur’s bilateral relationship was upgraded to a Comprehensive Partnership.

Immediately after arriving at Subang Air Base Airlift, she continued her visit to the Malaysian Parliament.


LAWATAN KERJA RASMI SPEAKER DEWAN PERWAKILAN AMERIKA SYARIKAT NANCY PELOSI KE MALAYSIA

Subang, 2 Ogos 22- Speaker Dewan Perwakilan Amerika Syarikat, Nancy Pelosi tiba di Pangkalan Udara Subang pagi ini sempena Lawatan Kerja Rasmi ke empat negara asia termasuk Malaysia. Ketibaan beliau dan delegasi kongres dengan pesawat khas kira-kira jam 10.30 disambut oleh Komander Pangkalan Udara Subang, Brig Jen Omar bin Hj Dawami TUDM serta Timbalan Yang Dipertua Dewan Rakyat, Datuk Mohd Rashid Hasnon, Duta Amerika Syarikat di Malaysia, Brian D McFeeters serta kumpulan eksekutif Pangkalan Udara Subang. Turut serta dalam delegasinya ialah Pengerusi Jawatankuasa Hal Ehwal Luar Negara, Gregory Meeks; Pengerusi Jawatankuasa Hal Ehwal Veteran, Mark Tanako serta tiga ahli Kongres iaitu Suzan Delbene, Raja Krishnamoorthi dan Andy Kim.

Nancy Pelosi ialah pemimpin nombor tiga dalam senarai pengganti presiden dan satu-satunya wanita yang pernah berkhidmat sebagai Speaker Dewan. Lawatan ini antara lain adalah menumpukan kepada isu keselamatan bersama, perkongsian ekonomi dan tadbir-urus demokratik di rantau Indo-Pasifik. Untuk rekod sejarah, Amerika Syarikat menjalin hubungan diplomatik dengan Malaysia pada 1957 berikutan kemerdekaan Malaya. Pada April 2014, hubungan dua hala Washington dan Kuala Lumpur dinaiktaraf kepada Perkongsian Komprehensif.

Sejurus tiba di Pergerakan Udara Pangkalan Udara Subang, beliau meneruskan lawatan ke Parlimen Malaysia.
